In 1997 I upgraded from a 486DX4-100 to a Pentium Pro 166MHz. At the time I was attracted to CPUs with a large amount of cache. I couldn't afford the 200MHz Pentium Pro with 512k of cache so I went with the 166Mhz that also had 512k of cache. It also had a Riva TNT for video and a Sound Blaster Live! for sound. Wanted Dual Voodoo2 but I could only afford a single card and having to buy a 2d card to go with it made it cost too much. The single card solution made more sense. Almost went with a 3DFX Banshee but the TNT had better reviews back then. Back then I regretted not going with a 3DFX card so I felt this time the Banshee would have been the most likely card I would have gone with if I did it again. I almost went with a TNT and a pair of Voodoo2 but I have Voodoo2s in a different Windows 98 build and didn't want any overlap. I'm also a big fan of Overdrive chips so the Pentium II OverDrive 333mhz was a no brainier for me and this was basically the last OverDrive from Intel. |
